We also went on a Favela tour

  2. hey jess, I don't mean to offend you, but it's shocking to me that you actually went on a favela tour. just imagine being one of the habitats of a favela, and all those tourists coming there, PAYING MONEY to see what kinda life your leading and to take photos of your conditions.. I just think it's rude. pls don't feel offended in any way, ♥

    1. Hey Tina! The tour is not voyeuristic, it is run by a company which supports a local after-school club and the people living in the favelas they visit are keen to show that where they live is not the gang-ridden and violent, scary place as depicted on television. To show this they have welcome boards written by the occupants (along with the people being friendly) and the tour did indeed show how many of those that live in the favelas are just working people, some of whom now have official addresses and are renovating their homes. Of course if it had been the kind of thing you are describing, we would not have gone.

    3. I just checked the website, sorry I got you wrong on that! I didn't know the company is actually supportive of the people living there.
When I was in Salvador our tourist guide also told us that 'normal' people live there - our bus driver was one of them :)
thank you for taking the time to reply :)

  3. I haven't been on YouTube that much, so I just found out you came to Rio. I can't believe I haven't met you here!!! Hope you had a good time. Next time, I would love to give you some tips on where to go out to eat, party and shop, just so you can run away a little from the touristic tours. Love your style, love your videos. xoxo :)
